Morocco The Soul Connection Sufi Retreat

Sufism

“I am a mountain. My words, my sounds are from my beloved.
I am a painting, my beloved is my Painter.
Did you think these are my words?
They are the sounds
Which come after the key turns in the lock. “

Mevlana Celaleddin Rumi

Imagine the sounds of music leading you into a trance. An ecstatic dance erupts from your soul. This is Sama. Storytelling is the main means of communicating events and discoveries. People sit in circles and relive events through storytelling.
They captivate the audience by reciting poems. Later, you may dream with more significance than before, and dream interpretation is offered. These were the circles and movements in the year 900 CE when Sufi masters emerged and centers for spiritual training were created across the Silk Road. The threads of time are interwoven, and your soul’s connection is to remember and awaken.

Upcoming: Sept 8 – 13 2026

The order of dervishes was established during this time, along with laws for spiritual conduct. There were also many female Sufis who were dreamers and could interpret dreams. These women were a luminous presence. Seekers began learning to write poems expressing their spiritual awakening. The highest aspiration became understanding eternal love, the divine connection, and how we are all connected.

Over time, Sufism reaches into a person’s soul and relinquishes the ego into a profound awareness of our inner and outer worlds.
Today, many self-proclaimed Sufis give retreats where people whirl like dervishes, claiming that this is the essence of Sufism. But that is not the case; it is a very small part, traditionally limited to a small group of men. Women’s dancing is much different, more organic and fluid. There are many myths about Sufism.
The best way to gain a true understanding and develop your own path is through transmission from a devoted master, as has been the case since the beginning.

You are invited to a six-day, five-night Sufi retreat for women in Marrakesh, an ancient caravanserai in Morocco. The setting will connect us to our ancient and nomadic roots with our ancestors. Sitting in a circle and listening to stories and teachings in the traditional oral format with the most recognized woman in the Islamic world today is a privilege for any seeker of the divine and truth interested in Sufism. Women have made great contributions to the spiritual development of humanity, and you can too!

Come as you are and be welcomed with open arms to this space for true soul connection with Fateh and Amina.

Join Amina Wadud, a retired professor of Islamic Studies. She is a global agent for women’s rights and gender equality and the author of several books. She has studied with Sufi teachers from Syria, Egypt, Turkey, India, South Africa, the UK, Italy, and the USA. In an intimate campfire storytelling setting, she will introduce the universal practices of mindfulness (muraqabah), remembrance (dhikr), and divine unity (tawhid). This is a unique opportunity to learn from one of the wisest and most influential leaders on this planet.
