Spiritual Journey – Revisited Part 2

What is Reality?

Spiritual Masters have tried to describe their insights – all agree that this physical level is the most dense and temporary layer of existence, yet it is so fulfilling and magical too. Once we are aware of multidimensions, all of life changes for us because our reactions which stem from our layers of conditioning become more and more transparent to ourselves. As we learn who we are beyond that which was given to us (since our brains are so neuroplastic), we can also slowly reset our beliefs and mindset. A conscious spiritual journey, once it starts, helps us to break away from encrustations, guilt and many fears.

What sets us off on a spiritual journey? Well, your whole life is a spiritual journey – it’s just that you have not been aware of it or forgot why you are here. The mind will block off things to protect you from traumas; sometimes these journeys come with pain and difficulties. The door may open, the veil may be thin, but your mind does not want to see it, and there’s also a divine timing for the soul. I remember seeing spirits as a child of 3 years old and my father told me these forms don’t actually exist; subsequently, they simply faded away until I was 8 and I saw a walking ghost-like spirit in my aunt’s house in San Francisco – she verified that it was the man who lived there before and not to worry. Later, when I became introduced to mysticism after my father’s death, he was the first spirit to contact me in my adult life after he passed into another realm.

My Path

I come from Peruvian Andean and Andalusian descent from my mom, with a sprinkling of northern European from my dad. I have delved in many areas of spiritualism, mysticism, mediumship… and have deep respect for all religions and peoples outside of the political context they are often thrown together with. Politics is not a spiritual pursuit to me in any sense. I advocate that people pursue what is in their heart – and eventually most do.

I used to read a lot growing up. I loved Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. I skipped grades and ended up at a college in California gathering credits for university at 15. By 16 my spiritual beliefs (not religious) were well established. From age 10 I started traveling to Peru alone. By 18 I had been many times, learning about Andean culture. When I visited Cusco, I knew I’d have to spend longer there. I have continued to visit my family and create connections with indigenous shamans and healers in Cusco throughout my life. My retreat offerings in Peru are how I share the land and wisdom of my ancestry.

At university (UH Hawaii, entered at 19), I noticed AI – a new fascinating field – and changed direction into cognitive science, later earning a Master’s in IT with AI. I worked as an AI engineer on a military base in Oahu in the 80s, then moved to Switzerland and worked for Oracle and other corporations for 8 years. I left to rediscover myself and spent 6 months in Turkey learning Sufism from a woman in a mountain village. My mother even said she saw me materializing in her living room.

I moved back to the US in the early 90s, became an executive and then CEO at 38. I started a financial software company with $40 million in private funding. But my health worsened from stress – severe asthma. Acupuncture introduced me to Kundalini Yoga breathwork, which changed my life. My asthma vanished. I received my spiritual name Fateh from Yogi Bhajan. That name later helped me discover a past life identity – a story for another time.

Awakening

In May 2000, my father passed away. He had left me messages on postcards about visiting Egypt (I finally went in 2009). I started seeing him at the foot of my bed. A colleague introduced me to Nan Umrigar, a medium in India, who taught me automatic writing. I had 21 sessions with my father through her. I stopped because I didn’t know how to keep other spirits from disturbing my peace. Only 25 years later, as a more mature woman, I resumed – Nan had laid down rules of engagement in her later videos and books.

On Sept 10, 2001, I drove to the airport with no reservation – first time ever – and flew to Zurich. I knew something huge was coming. I landed 10 minutes before the world changed forever. After that, I began selling everything. It took 5 years to leave the US. Love brought me to Costa Rica, and an astro-cartography session confirmed the move.

In 2003, I went to Turkey again. A friend’s father, a Sufi researcher, took us on a pilgrimage to Rumi’s madrassa in Konya, where I learned dream interpretation.

I left my software company and built a wellness retreat in Costa Rica. I later started offering retreats in Bali, where I met gifted healers. I was invited to India for a wedding, which reopened childhood memories. I learned about Ayurveda and Hindu cosmology. I also discovered what my name Fateh truly meant – and a past life in India. That’s a mystical story for another time.

Sacred Sites, Dr. Amina Wadud, and a Call to Travel

I began offering Ayurveda retreats in India. Dr. Amina Wadud – the most recognized woman in Islam for her fight for equality – joined one in 2017, then came to Costa Rica and Bali. We became friends. I am now bringing her to Marrakech in September 2026 for a women’s Sufi circle. Her biography is coming out this summer. I have also visited Borobudur and most sacred sites on earth – each one leaves a “huella”, a frequency, as my mother called it.

Indigenous cultures deserve respect. So much wisdom has been lost. We can only retrieve those truths through our consciousness and past life memories.

While we are all blessed to live in a world full of wonder, I beseech you to get out of your comfort zone. Travel, seek, and find that which only your soul can receive. Growth of the soul is stirred by travel like stoking a fire. It’s challenging, but it moves your whole perception of life.

For those who would like a hand and an experienced guide, come join me. I receive sincere seekers with open arms. I feel confident I can help you realize the next step.
